Window Treatment & Lighting Design Blog

Window Collections offers the best motorized drapery track systems available.  We have a wide selection for you and your clients to view in our conveniently located showroom in the heart of West Los Angeles.  There are varying options to choose from – depending on the scope of the project and individual needs including dual applications and custom curved tracks.  See below some of our many options:

Your Lighting Control that shifts with the sun and sets the mood

The sun sets a little earlier every week this time of year, so a dinner planned for seven o'clock now starts in the dark. That's when most rooms show their weakness. You can pick the right wine and the right flowers, but one flat wash of overhead light still makes a beautiful table look dull. It’s a great way to kill the mood before dinner even starts.

Lighting control lets you take command of the lighting all day. We pair Lutron HomeWorks with Ketra fixtures that follow the color and warmth of daylight, so your home stays comfortable from the last of the afternoon sun to the last glass of wine. Here's how that works.

Solar Shades Preserve Your Interiors and Your Views

Big windows are part of why you fell for your home in the first place, but in Los Angeles, they come with a quiet cost. Direct sun wears down everything inside a room every single day it is uninterrupted: hardwood floors pick up an uneven tan, upholstery loses its depth of color, and artwork fades in ways no cleaning can correct.

The sun’s solar gain also makes your HVAC system work harder to keep up. Your HVAC picks up the added work so you remain comfortable, but you’ll notice the impact soon enough on your energy bills.

Solar shades solve both problems at once by filtering glare and UV without asking you to give up the view your windows were built for.

Tunable LED Fixtures Protect Your Design Vision

Every material choice in a room — a hand-loomed rug, a specific paint sheen, a piece of custom furniture — is tuned to look a certain way under a certain kind of light. What looked great in a high-end showroom will not look the same under your home’s standard fixtures. Ordinary lighting can quietly undercut a palette you spent months getting right.

Ketra lighting, integrated with a Lutron system, treats light itself as part of the material palette in your interior decor. It's precise enough to match your intended color temperature and intensity from morning through evening, so the room reads the way you designed it. Don’t let your home go to waste with flat lighting.

Ease of Use

Custom Awnings Bring Comfort and Style to Everyday Outdoor Living

The best room in a well-designed home is often the one without four walls. Not ones that make you feel stifled and claustrophobic, but ones that give you a fresh perspective and help you decompress.

A covered terrace for your morning coffee. A shaded dining area for evening guests. A poolside retreat that feels like it belongs at a five-star resort.

Southern California's sun is one of your home's greatest assets, but without the right shading solution, that same sun pushes you indoors during the hottest stretch of the afternoon and ruins these great spots.

A well-designed awning gives you your patio back, turning an underused space into one of your favorite spots in the entire house.

When daylight becomes part of the design, every room reaches its full potential.

Luxury homes throughout Los Angeles celebrate expansive glass, sweeping views, and interiors filled with natural daylight. Every surface, texture, and carefully selected finish comes alive as sunlight shifts across the space, creating an experience that evolves throughout the day.

For interior designers, shaping that experience extends beyond furniture and material selections. It includes guiding the way light enters each room and how every space welcomes moments of privacy while maintaining its connection to the outdoors. Automated shading has become an elegant detail that supports this vision through seamless integration and refined performance. Keep reading to discover why more designers are making automated shading an essential part of their creative process from the very beginning.

Make Exterior Shading an Integral Part of Your Design

Most outdoor awning installations are chosen the way a homeowner picks a patio umbrella. They’re considered a quick addition for added shade rather than a concrete part of the home’s overall design. That approach won’t work in Los Angeles projects where the outdoor living space carries as much weight as any interior room.

A visible bracket or a boxy valance can undo months of careful work on placement, furnishings,  materials, and palettes designed for a smooth indoor-outdoor flow. Outdoor awnings belong in the same design conversation as lighting, drapery, and flooring, not bolted on after the fact. It’s why we work closely with interior designers to incorporate them into their projects.

Balance Sun Protection With Tailored Textile Designs in Your Projects

Large glass walls look beautiful in oceanfront properties, but they pose major physical challenges for luxury estates. The intense Southern California sun creates significant solar heat gain, harsh, blinding glare, and damaging UV rays that fade fine interior finishes, custom flooring, and rare artwork over time.

Natural light requires engineered, dual-layer window treatments to contain it. By combining motorized sunscreen shades with custom drapery panels, you give your clients total control over the incoming sunlight without ruining their view or decor.

This configuration relies on a dual-track system built straight into the ceiling framing. A high-performance technical shade sits closest to the glass to intercept heat, and a secondary interior track handles full-scale custom decorative drapery panels. Managing the pre-wire work, pocket framing coordination, and

Lutron programming takes specialized knowledge. Window Collections acts as your low-voltage engineering partner, handling the entire process in-house so your design firm can focus entirely on fabric selections.

Resort-Inspired Comfort, Shade, and Style for Your Backyard

Too many homeowners treat their patios as afterthoughts. They leave beautiful stretches of their property underutilized. Your exterior spaces deserve to function as fluid, gorgeous extensions of your main living areas. We can help. By pairing premium structural shelter with high-end automated shading, we protect your comfort and maximize your daily enjoyment of the outdoors.

Add architectural elements, screens and intuitive controls to convert a standard patio into a luxury living space. Focusing on these details allows you to establish a private backyard retreat reminiscent of your favorite luxury vacation destination.

Invisible Automation and White-Glove Coordination for High-End Design

Managing a multi-million-dollar residential project comes with intense pressure and constant client scrutiny. When designing high-end estates in enclaves like Beverly Hills or Malibu, you cannot afford a single misplaced technical detail. A poorly planned architectural element can quickly sour a relationship on a multi-million-dollar project. That is why leading designers do not need a specialized, trusted technical extension to their internal studio team.

Window Collections provides exactly that through our dedicated concierge engineering process. While your studio owns the grand artistic vision, our team manages the complex structural physics, hardware specifications, and cross-system logistics of pergola installations. This lets you focus entirely on elite aesthetics, spatial layout, and your high-value client relationships.

Protect Your Design and Your Client’s Investment with High-Performance Textiles

Interior designers know that window treatments are more than a finishing touch. And they know they’re not a monolith. While shutters and shades are great for privacy and climate control, custom drapes add a luxurious touch to any room. With floor-to-ceiling tracks, you draw the eye upward and create distinct focal points in open-concept spaces that others feel ungrounded.

And while style may be your top priority, these custom drapes offer other benefits for your clients as well. They enhance room acoustics and create a thermal barrier to improve overall comfort. You take care of the colors and fabrics, we handle the technical work behind the scenes. We share the same goal: to balance high-end aesthetics with overall functionality.

Enhance Project Value and Expand Livable Space with High-Performance Exterior Shading

As you design outdoor spaces for your clients, you need to acknowledge that direct sunlight will often make them unusable. The best-designed spaces will go to waste if you don’t have a way to provide reliable shading. We help interior designers get the most out of their projects with outdoor awnings that let your clients enjoy their spaces no matter the outdoor conditions.

Beyond the functional benefits of outdoor awnings, these are a stylistic tool in their own right. With custom colors and fabrics to choose from, they help you control the home’s silhouette and overall exterior aesthetic. Our team handles the installation and programming while you focus on the visual result.

Achieve Luxury Aesthetics with Reliable Control and Minimalist Design

High-end interior design often feels like a battle between your aesthetic vision and the clutter of technology. You spend months selecting specific finishes, only for standard lighting to wash out expensive textures or bulky plastic switches to ruin a clean wall line. When technology isn't part of the initial plan, it will inevitably clash with it.

When we work with interior designers, we recommend Lutron Homeworks: a design-first lighting control system. It allows the architecture to take center stage while providing the technical infrastructure to support it. We help designers find the balance between architectural intent and smart home functionality.

Home Automation Gives the Finishing Touches to Your Client’s Lighting Control

High-end interior designers want technology you don’t notice until you’re ready to use it. Many standard lighting systems clutter homes with bulky panels and switches littering the walls. Yet, designers also know layered lighting is important to the design, so simply reducing the number of fixtures isn’t an option.

At Window Collections, we help interior designers with a trusted combination: Lutron, the golden standard of lighting control, and Josh.ai, a sleek home automation platform with a privacy-focused approach to voice control. As a Lutron Double Diamond Dealer, we help you find solutions that give homeowners the usability they need without hindering your design.
